Episode #45: The Swimmer (1' 55")

First off, thanks to everyone who left the amazing notes and
sent me some really wonderful emails. They meant a lot
to me and I'm very grateful.

It's been a rough couple of weeks. I decided to take this week
off. I'd had enough of porn, of sex, of family.

I'm alone for the week until I go back to work on Monday. I've
been wandering around San Francisco, keeping to myself.

I went to City Lights Books. The guy behind the counter
told me to buy a book of short stories by John Cheever.

I'm not sure why, but the story that hit me was 'The Swimmer'.
If you want to read it, here's where you can find the whole thing
online. You could probably read it in 15 minutes.

I hope this episode isn't too strange. I needed a break
from everything.

  3. I can relate to your need simply to be. I find holidays to be stressful in the best of times, but I think like you have had to much mental and emotional stimulation of late. I wouldn't mind a few days under an umbrella on a beach with no one expecting anything of me or just time in my house without answering the telephone and visitors. Just time to float with the current without swimming against it.

I vaguely remember reading this story ages ago. The story is an old one. Unless snarky Anonymous knows something I don't, I believe the story is public domain.

  4. Good to hear you're taking a break. Everyone needs it once in a while. I'll have to catch up on the story, could do with a good read in all this bad weather over here in the UK.

  5. You are very talented. Its a shame to see your talent wasted making porn. Maybe its time to get out of making porn, while you still have a chance at a great career. Talent like yours should not be wasted. The question is will porn full fill you creative needs and instincts twenty years from now. Don't sell out for the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

  7. Just watched Shadowbox. Amazing. Then, after Googling Lloyd Lake and the 1906 quake, I learned that the Portico in the Park was in a scene from Vertigo, named as an influential film in your bio. Cool how those kinds of things come full circle. I hope to see some of your work on a bigger screen soon!
